Nord Alley
description
THE NORD ALLEY features rotating art exhibits on permanent steel panels mounted to buildings in the alley. Check our website: http://www.alleynetworkproject.com for current events.
The Nord Alley is part of the Alley Network Project. ANP draws on the energy and ideas of neighbors, businesses and community groups to transform one of Pioneer Square’s behavioral and sanitary “trouble spots” – alleys – into one of its best assets. The alleys present an opportunity for Pioneer Square to boost healthy activity on its streets, feed its vibrant arts culture and bring people to local businesses.

TELESCOPE ART
artists: Sarah Ruether & Nick MacDonald
See the newest alley installation, Telescope Art by Sarah Ruether and Nick MacDonald. Sarah and Nick used discarded plug plates from the Sloan Foundation’s 2.5 meter telescope’s focal plane for the newest alley art. These plates are drilled with thousands of holes to capture light from a galaxy, quasar or other target. Each hole conveys light to a spectograph through an optical fiber.
“Art, bringing light into a dark alley….
From holes which guided light from far away in a dark sky;
Into individual fibers, to understand galaxies, quasars and other mysteries of the universe – Sarah Ruether
Visit Nord Alley for the alley art party on First Thursday Art Walk 2/7. Telescope Art on display February - March. Hosted by the Alley Network Project and the International Sustainability Institute.
