Trevor Johnson "New Work"

artists: Trevor Johnson

Trevor Johnson’s work is about Styrofoam.  Styrofoam is the material, and Styrofoam is the subject. “Refuse Flock” is inspired by the Pacific Trash Gyre, but without any dark overtones. The environmental travesty floating in the Pacific Ocean is something pretty awe-inspiring, and Johnson uses it as a reference to try to create something beautiful.  Johnson’s work combines play, construction, and design mixed with a little bit of environmental commentary I am like a child building with blocks when I’m working. While the hanging work is meant to put the viewer within an environment, the smaller wall pieces are constructed compositions that consider the material associations we have with Styrofoam.
